Aiming for Equity: Accessible Inclusion for All
Despite legislation on diversity in the workplace, people with disabilities still do not experience the same access to work opportunities as do their counterparts without disabilities. For many people with disabilities, finding and sustaining work is a challenge. Indeed, it has been estimated that in the United States (US), only one in three (34.9%) individuals with disabilities are employed compared to 76% of their counterparts without disabilities, and this disparity appears to be increasing over time. Many employers have been shown to harbor sincere yet ill-founded views about the work-related abilities of people with disabilities; these negative views are often a result of interrelated concerns that permeate the entire employment cycle.
During this three-part series we will candidly discuss the benefits and challenges that accompany effective inclusion of employees with disabilities in the workplace as well as catering to customers and clients with disabilities. The Summit will highlight best practices surrounding ways in which organizations can work towards fostering a business culture that includes and embraces its employees with disabilities.
The three-part series includes:
Workforce Development: October 20
Self-Disclosure, ERG Development and Programming: November 19
Accommodations and ADA 30th Anniversary: December 17 For questions or comments, please contact Ivy Hunter at [email protected]
